So to day I truly earned the creative Genius award. I’m one of the worlds worst about getting laundry done in a timely fashion. Yesterday, I worked really hard at getting all of the laundry put away. I’m really good about getting it washed. Medium about getting it dried and lousy at putting it away, there was over a weeks worth of laundry clean and dried just wrinkling away while it sat in baskets. I am trying a new system for doing laundry one load a day first thing in the morning. We will see how this works out.
Now, on to my award. This morning when I went to put in the load of towels. I noticed that the washing machine was at the end of a pre-wash cycle not a wash cycle. That is right Yesterday, I pre-washed, dried, and put away clothes, that never got washed. Oh, well, I guess what people don’t know can’t here them. Good thing DH is a pharmacy student and not a farmer.
Tell me, what are your tricks for staying on top of the laundry?
The Nike motto works for me. Just. Do. It. There is no way I could do laundry on Monday, ironing on Tuesday, etc…I do laundry every day of the week, and like you, I really feel good when I can get on top of it first thing in the morning, which means getting the dishwasher going last thing at night so they aren’t competing for our poor water pressure supply!
Also, I fold things straight out of the dryer. Even if I have to heat-fluff them. I refuse to let them go into a basket. They either get folded on the dryer door as I pull them out hot, or I sic the girls to folding clothes/towels on my bed. I’m lucky that way, to have built-in slaves. You’ll get yours there one of these days. I bet big sister already folds all your washcloths for you! That’s always been a fave toddler chore at our house. Make it fun now, believe me, and you’ll have your girls THANKING you for handing off their clean clothes to them to put away. It’s really amazing how that works. If they pick up on you hating laundry chores…it works against you eventually.
I gaze lovingly at my machine every time I remember how grandma used to do it, outside with a wringer washer. Ugh!
Okay, maybe I should get to bed, I’m really not in love with laundry. Really. Though I am addicted to that fresh clean scent…
I love the idea of not putting the clothes in a basket. I have to confess that I have not worked with Big sister on laundry like I should. We usually hang up the majority of our clothes. She loves to hand me hangers. She even knows the difference between her hangers and Little sister’s. Big sister is usually very gracious. It is amazing to me how little she needs to be reminded to say thank you.
When we were in California we had just loaded up the washer. The next day, after a second washing we realized that he washer was not agitating just filling up. We had to wash the clothes out by hand. My knuckles were raw. They are not used to that kind of labor. It has helped me appreciate my washer.
Oh boy, that would make you appreciate modern conveniences!!! Taking it a step further…Can you imagine if we had no running water? If we had to walk a mile or more to collect water from the river and then boil it for our needs?
No way!!!
